Installation

Version 2.5 can be installed directly over v2.0.  If installing over versions previous to 2.0, you MUST first delete QuickPhone (including the 2.0 Beta) prior to installing the 2.5 release version.

Usage

Use the Numeric Keypad to type in a number, which is then formatted and displayed in the Number Display. The number is formatted based on the selected Phone Type. See below for more information on creating and selecting number formats. As of version 2.5, you can enter a different number for each phone type.  This allows you to enter the Work, Home, Mobile and Other number for an individual at once.  Simply select the Phone Type and enter the number.  The Phone Type Indicator will be highlighted letting you know that a number has been entered.  Once you have entered all the numbers you want, press the ‘Add’ button to enter the numbers into your Address Book.

Main Screen

Number Display

As you enter a number using the Numeric Keypad, it will be displayed here in the format you specify. The way it appears in the Number Display is exactly how it will be entered into your Address Book.

Phone Type Indicator

As soon as you enter a number for a specific Phone Type, a corresponding indicator will be highlighted in the Number Display.  This provides visual feedback that a number has been entered for a specific type.

Keypad

Use the Numeric Keypad to enter the number. The buttons are large enough (hopefully for most people) to use your finger instead of the stylus. The Clear key will clear the entire contents of the Number Display, the Backspace will erase the last character.  You can optionally use Graffiti or an external keyboard (PPK, GoType!) to enter numbers.

Phone Type

Select one of the four specified Phone Types; Work, Home, Mobile or Other. The selection will determine which number format is used as well as which number field is populated in the Address Book record. See the Preferences section below on how to create and select a Number Format.  As you enter a number, the corresponding Phone Type Indicator will be highlighted.

User Buttons

Your can customize the four User Buttons with any numbers you like up to four characters. Use these buttons to store common area codes, extension or whatever text you may repeat often.

Name

Selecting the ‘Name…’ button displays a dialog where you can enter First Name, Last Name, Company information and Email address for the current record. You can also specify a Category from your Address Book to place the current record. The values entered here override the Default Last and Default Category preference. Please Note that the values are reset after the ‘Add’ button is pressed.

View

After a new record is entered into your Address Book, pressing ‘View’ will launch the Address Book application and go directly to the previously entered number.

Add

After inputting a number using the Numeric Keypad, press the ‘Add’ button to enter the number into your Address Book.

Menu

The Add, Name... and View menu options provide the same functionality as their corresponding buttons.

The Preferences... menu item will display the preferences dialog detailed below.

The Default Category... menu item will display the following dialog, which allows you to select the category from your address book where QuickPhone records will be added.

The About… menu item displays the application information dialog.

Launch Address Book Application

When you press the "AddressBook" hardware button while using QuickPhone, you will launch the AddressBook application. While this may not sound like a ground breaking feature, it does allow you to map QuickPhone to the AddressBook hardware button to launch QuickPhone; a second press of the button would then launch the AddressBook.

Detailed Screen Descriptions

Preferences

The Preferences dialog allows you to select the number format for each phone type, input the default text used by QuickPhone to create Address Book records and customize user buttons.

You can select a different number format for each of the four Phone Types, including Work, Home, Mobile and Other. Clicking the selector will launch a dialog to select (or create) a format for the specific phone type.

The Default Last preference specifies the text that is used to populate the Last Name field when entered to the Address Book.

You can specify the text for each of the four User Buttons with the fields on this form. This text will be displayed on the button, and entered into the Number Display when pressed. There is a limit of four characters per button. These buttons can be used for frequently entered area codes or extension.

If the Close After Add option is selected, QuickPhone will automatically exit after you Add a number. With this preference is enabled, you will be returned to the application you were previously running after QuickPhone automatically exits.

Select Format

Initially you will use this dialog to create new number formats. You can create up to ten different formats, described below. After creating formats, use this dialog to select the format for each Phone Type.

New Format

Use this dialog to create a new format. Any character can be used for the format with the exception of the character ‘n’, which is used to specify where a digit should be placed. This feature more easily described using the examples below.
