1 Overview

PocketWatch+ turns your handheld into a pocket watch: If you turn on your handheld with the power button or tap on the upper-left corner of the silk area, PocketWatch+ shows a clock window on top of the current application for a few seconds. If you press a button or tap on the screen the clock disappears immediately. An optional auto-off feature will turn off the handheld after showing the clock, if it was powered on by a button.

1.1 Features

  • Support for Palm OS 2.0 to 3.5
  • Power-on activation with power button or datebook button. Power-on activation can be disabled.
  • Digitiser activation with a choice of silk-screen taps and strokes. In particular the m100 style upper-left corner tap is supported.
  • Four different clock faces: Classic, LED, Mono and Bold
  • Multi-language awareness for displaying weekdays: Currently supported are the languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. This feature is independent of the Palm OS version.
  • Selectable clock display time-out
  • Auto-off function, which can be disabled
  • Full Screen or Popup-Window presentation
  • Display of seconds, which can be turned off
  • Display of date and weekday, which can be turned off
  • Choice how digitiser taps and other events get handled. They can be consumed by PocketWatch+ or passed on to the background application.
  • Pending alarms are detected by PocketWatch+ and displayed with priority instead of the clock.

1.2 Comparison to PocketWatch for OS 3.5

PocketWatch+ is the successor of the 5 cow rated freeware utility PocketWatch for OS 3.5. PocketWatch+ is a redesign based on a HackMaster extension architecture. This allows it to run on older Palm OS versions. Besides the architecture difference, PocketWatch+ contains many new features, is more user-friendly and is multi-language aware.

3 Installation, Setup and Registration

Please read the Read Me Notes. They contain last-minute product information for PocketWatch.

3.1 System Requirements

PocketWatch+ runs on Palm OS versions 2.0 to 3.5. It will not work on any handheld that has Palm OS 1.x.

PocketWatch+ is a HackMaster extension and requires HackMaster or a compatible system extension manager installed on your handheld. The system extension manager is not part of the PocketWatch+ package and has to be licensed seperately.

3.2 Before using PocketWatch

PocketWatch+ is a HackMaster extension and all the precautions usually recommended when installing a hack should be considered to protect yourself against potential data loss:

  • First hotsync and backup your handheld (use a backup program like BackupBuddy or the freeware BackupAll)!
  • Make sure that you are using the latest version.
  • Check the "Known Issues and Incompatibilities" section in the Read Me Notes.
  • If you experience problems it is the best to disable all hacks, enable PocketWatch+, test it and then enable the rest one by one.

3.3 Installation

Before you can use PocketWatch+ you will need HackMaster or a compatible system extension manager installed on your handheld.

Install PocketWatch+ and perform a HotSync operation (refer to your handheld manual if you do not know how to do this). After PocketWatch+ has been synchronised onto your handheld, you will be asked to reset the device. This is a normal procedure.

After the reset, you will need to activate PocketWatch+ in the HackMaster application: Run the HackMaster application on your handheld. Check the box to the left of "PocketWatch+" in the list of hacks. The question mark icon to the right of "PocketWatch+" brings up the About dialog and the plus icon brings up the Preferences dialog.

3.4 Registration

Unless PocketWatch+ is registered and unlocked with a valid Unlock Key it will run in Trial Mode. In Trial Mode it will run for five days without any limitation. After five days it will display a registration reminder box for 3 seconds before showing the clock.

After you have purchased this software package you will receive an Unlock Key which consists of a sequence of numbers and letters. To unlock your unregistered version, start the HackMaster application and press the plus icon to bring up the PocketWatch+ Preferences dialog. In the Preferences dialog select the Register button and then the Unlock button which brings up the following dialog:

Presentation

Button

Button defines which hardware button you want to use to show the clock when powering up the handheld. You can disable power-up launching with None.

Silk Area Stroke

Silk Area Stroke defines a digitizer tap or stroke to show up the clock at any time after power-up. U/l Corner means a tap on the upper left corner of the silk area. 123 Corner means a tap on the numeric keyboard dot in the lower right corner of the silk area. Calc to Find means a stroke from the calculator button to the find button.

Time-Out

Time-Out makes the clock disappear automatically after a certain time. After the time-out period the device may shut off if Auto-off is enabled as well.

Auto-off

Checking Auto-off enables shutting off of the handheld after the time-out period has expired. It applies only if PocketWatch+ was launched by a hardware button. Auto-off doesn't apply if Time-Out is disabled.

Eat Tap Events

Checking Eat Tap Events makes PocketWatch+ consume events like digitizer taps rather then passing them to the background application. If full-screen presentation has been chosen and this option is unchecked, a tap on the clock form dismisses.

Display Seconds

Checking Display Seconds enables the display of seconds. With seconds the am/pm text gets displayed in front of the time, without after the time.

Display Date

Checking Display Date enables the display of weekday and date.
