Using MobileSafe Account Manager

Logging In

To begin using Handmark MobileSafe Account Manager, simply tap the Account Manager icon on your application screen. Enter your product serial number on the serial number screen and you're ready to build your accounts. Until you purchase a product serial number, you can only use MobileSafe Account Manager for 30 days.

When you first launch MobileSafe Account Manager, the Account List View appears.

Once you have created a password in MobileSafe, you will be asked to enter your password each time you launch MobileSafe.  The password entry field displays boxes for each character entered in order to hide the password.  Once you enter your password, tap OK.  If the correct password is entered the account list appears.  If an incorrect password is entered, an error message appears and you have another chance to enter the correct password. Tap Keyboard to use the Palm OS keyboard to enter the password.

If at any time you want to turn off the password feature, simply change the password to a 'blank' password.  Please see the change password section for more information.

Account List View

The Account List View is the 'home base' view of MobileSafe.  You'll notice that the look-and-feel is similar to the address list view of the built-in Address Book.  Accounts are listed in alphabetical order by the first field of the account.

In the account list view, tap New to create a new account then select an account to view or edit by tapping on the account name on the list.  Select a category on the Category drop-down list, similar to other Palm OS applications.  The number of records in the selected category is also displayed. To change the password,  tap Change Password on the Options menu.

If you have a password set, tap the lock icon to return the application to the log-in screen.

To delete an account record, simply tap Delete on the Edit Form.   Confirm that you want to delete the current account by tapping Yes when the Delete dialog box appears.

Changing the Password

Once you create a password in MobileSafe, you are prompted to enter the password each time you launch MobileSafe.  If at any time you want to "turn off" the password feature, simply change the password to a 'blank' password and you will not be prompted again.

To change the password:

  1. Tap the menu icon, then tap Change Password on the Options menu. The Password Change dialog box appears.
  2. Enter the original password in the Old Password line, if one exists.  The password entry field displays boxes for each character entered in order to hide the password.  If no password exists, leave the Old Password line blank.
  3. Enter the new password in New Password line. If you don't want to use a password, leave both entry fields blank.

Restoring Your Backup Database

Install the backup AcctMgrDB.pdb database onto the PalmOS device using the Palm installation tool.  The database can be installed before, after, or simultaneously with the MobileSafe application.  It is recommended that you rename the database on the PC every so often to keep extra backup versions of the database.

Exporting Data to Memo Pad

You can export a category of records to the built-in Palm OS Memo Pad at any time. Simply tap Exprt Category to Memo on the Options menu. This creates a memo with the title "Mobile AM Export" and each line contains the label and data element in a tab deleimted format. Please note that this information is not secure once it has been exported to Memo Pad.

Importing Data From Memo Pad

First, create a memo with the title "Mobile AM Import:" on the Palm OS device or in a memo editing application on the PC. Then, enter your data in the format below separated by tabs. The easiest way to ensure that you are using the correct format to import your data is to export some records and change the "Export:" to "Import:" in the title of the record then change the data in each of data element lines.

Mobile AM Import:

<blank line>

Label1:<tab>Data1

Label2:<tab>Data2

Label3:<tab>Data3

Label4:<tab>Data4

Label5:<tab>Data5

Label6:<tab>Data6

Note:<tab>NoteData

<blank line>

Mobile AM Next record:

Label1:<tab>Data1

Label2:<tab>Data2

Label3:<tab>Data3

Label4:<tab>Data4

Label5:<tab>Data5

Label6:<tab>Data6

Note:<tab>NoteData

Using MobileSafe-PC

Getting Started

If you have not already installed the MobileSafe package on your PC then you will need to run the "Setup.exe" file in the MobileSafe directory.

MobileSafe-PC requires the use of your backup database from MobileSafe Account Manager (for the Palm) version 2.0 or newer before it will function properly. Therefore, you must have completed the following for MobileSafe-PC to function correctly.

1. Installed MobileSafe Account Manager on your Palm OS device.
2. Launced MobileSafe Account Manager on the Palm OS device in order to create a database.
3. Hot Synced to your PC to create a backup of the Mobile Safe Account Manager database on the PC.

Logging In

When you first start up MobileSafe-PC, a standard log in dialog box is displayed. Select the user for the account manager data. This also defines to which user the database will be installed when pressing the "install changes" button. Enter the MobileSafe password. If no database was set, leave the entry field blank. Click OK. The main account list screen appears.

If you are unable to login, check for your backup account manager database (acctmgrdb.pdb file) in the c:\palm\<username>\backups directory. If this file is not there, check "custom" hotsync dialog on your PC and ensure that the "System" variable is set to "handheld overwrites desktop". Then hot sync again.

Account List - Main Screen

Using MobileSafe-PC is similar to the Palm OS version. The account list allows you to select an acount to edit or delete. Click New to create a new account. Once you finish adding or editing accounts, click Install Changes, then use the Hot Sync application to transfer the new data to the Palm OS device.

Account Edit Screen

To edit your account, simply select an account off the account list and click Edit. Once you finish adding or editing accounts, click Install Changes, then use the Hot Sync application to transfer the new data to the Palm OS device.

Acct Mgr-PC "Behind the Scenes"

By Default, MobileSafe-PC is set up to edit your backup Palm MobileSafe database. When you click Install Changes it sets the new database to be installed over the old database on the Palm. Each time you install a new database, a copy of the database is saved in the c:\palm\<username>\backups directory just in case you need to retreive a previous version.

Once in the application, save the database with a different name or location by using the "Save as" feature. Similarly, you can open a previously saved database.
